Homegrown Music is WVIA-FM's exclusive series which each week showcases the talents of regional contemporary music artists in recordings produced in the WVIA-FM studios by series host George Graham and is broadcast Tuesdays at 9:00 PM. Homegrown Music will be preempted on November 6 for election coverage. Special features duing November include a live concert on the 12th and a Homegrown Jazz special (rescheduled from last month) on the 21st. Nov. 12 A Homegrown Music Live Concert with MARC BERGER and TOM FLANNERY AND THE SHILLELAGHS. WVIA's unique monthly series of live concert-broadcasts continues with the return of two singer-songwriters to the series, both joined by bands.

Marc Berger is a veteran Upstate New York singer-songwriter who last appeared on Homegrown Music over a decade ago. Last year, he released a well-received CD called Ride that continues to receive national airplay. Marked by articulate songwriting and supported by a tasteful roots-rock band, Berger's music has been winning fans around the country. He brings his band to appear on this month's concert.

Tom Flannery

Tom Flannery is one of the region's most prolific songwriters, as well as being as a playwright. He has appeared on the Homegrown Music many times obver the years, most frequently in a solo setting. But this time he brings a straight-out rock 'n' roll band to perform his original songs. It's high-energy music with thoughtful lyrics.

As usual, WVIA's members and listeners are invited to attend the two-hour concert at the station's Sordoni Theater. Free audience seating reservations are available at wvia.org or by phoning 570-655-2808. Note: Start time: 8:00 PM.

Nov. 13 Tauk. An outstanding art-rock-fusion instrumental jam band from Long Island, Tauk has been gaining considerable popularity on the national jam-band circuit, appearing in Scranton in August with the Allman Brothers. Their previous CD Brokedown King was featured on the Mixed Bag weekly album review and was one of George Graham's picks for top albums of 2010. They make their Homegrown Music debut with a set of new original music that shows their remarkable musicianship.

Nov. 20 Noam Weinstein. Singer-songwriter and pianist Noam Weinstein's CD Clocked was featured on Mixed Bag earlier this year. He makes his Homegrown Music debut with a collection of appealing original songs that range from witty to poignant.

Nov. 21 A Homegrown Jazz Special with the JOE MICHAELS TRIO. Lead by bassist Joe Michaels, this traditionally-instrumented piano trio features three winners of the regional Belin Arts Scholarship. On piano is Ron Stabinski and the drummer is Matt Smallcomb, both of whom also have careers in classical music. They perform a nice collection of jazz standards with creative arrangements. (Note: rescheduled from October 31.)

Nov. 27 MiZ. Guitarist, singer and songwriter Mike Mizwinsky has appeared on Homegrown Music previously in a solo setting, and in 2010 in a live concert. This time, he appears with a full electric band to perform some new compositions. Once again, Mizwinsky's outstanding guitar work is spotlighted.
