Aug. 2 Brenda Fernandes. A talented composer, keyboardist and vocalist from Scranton, Brenda Fernandes made her Homegrown Music debut in this 2019 session with an enjoyable set of original music inspired by her study of meditative practices. |
Aug. 9 The Empty Pockets. An outstanding national group makes their fourth studio appearance on Homegrown Music with a new collection of songs, previewing the compositions from their forthcoming album Outside Spectrum. Since their last appearance on the program, the band has been busy touring, most recently serving as the backing band for Al Stewart. |
Aug. 16 Hickory Project. The bluegrass scene was saddened by recent news of the passing of mandolinist extraordinaire Anthony Hannigan, founder and long-time leader of the regionally-based, nationally touring bluegrass group Hickory Project. We remember Anthony with this encore of the group’s live 2015 Homegrown concert. |
Aug. 23 Kristen Toedtman. A mult-faceted artist who has divided her time between Baltimore and Los Angeles, Ms. Toedtman has performed with The Los Angeles Philharmonic, The Philip Glass Ensemble, and even Frank Zappa. She has sung on the soundtracks to the animated films Frozen, Minions and Despicable Me 3. Her album of original songs Limbo was featured on WVIA’s Mixed Bag. On this 2016 Homegrown Music appearance, she performs her jazzy original songs in a solo piano/vocal setting. |
Aug. 30 International Orange An outstanding jazz-rock fusion quartet, comprising musicians who have worked as backing musicians with jazz and rock groups worldwide. Their 2019 album A Man and His Dog was featured on the Mixed Bag album review. They perform a mix of new material and altered arrangement of tunes from their album in this all-new segment. |
