Homegrown Music is WVIA-FM's exclusive series which each week showcases the talents of regional contemporary music artists in recordings produced in the WVIA-FM studios by series host George Graham and is broadcast Tuesdays at 9:00 PM. Homegrown Music will be preempted July 19 and 26 for broadcast of the Republican and Democratic National Conventions. July 7 Skip Monday. A young duo from the Scranton area, Kaylin Karr and Nathan Montella draw on contemporary pop influences in an acoustic context. This is an encore of their 2015 series debut. |
July 14 A Homegrown Music Concert Encore: SIMON APPLE. While the Homegrown Music concert series is in summer hiatus, series produced George Graham is presenting rebroadcasts of memorable past live concerts. Simon Apple is the name of a creative art-rock influenced group who attracted numerous rock luminaries to appear on their debut CD River to the Sea. This encore features an outstanding 2007 performance of their sophisticated music. |
Aug. 2 Eric Hansen. Singer-songwriter (and actor) Eric Hansen is known for his warm, rich vocals and easy-going, sometimes witty lyrics. This archive segment features a session from 1999. |
Aug. 9 The Coal Town Rounders. Northeastern Pennsylvania is endowed with national level bluegrass bands. The Coal Town Rounders are known for their original music that evokes traditional sounds, along with their outstanding musicianship. This is an encore of their 2015 Homegrown Music debut. |
Aug. 16 A Homegrown Music Concert Encore with B.D. Lenz. New Jersey-based jazz-rock fusion guitarist (and mathematics teacher) B.D. Lenz has been releasing critically acclaimed albums since the late 1990. His most recent recording Manifesto has also been well received. B.D. put in three Homegrown Music appearances over the years. For our summer “concert hiatus” series, we present an encore of a memorable live concert from 2007. |
Aug. 23 Melodic Intersect. This world music fusion combines authentic Indian sitar and tabla with guitar and electronic keyboards for some enjoyable music that combines Eastern sounds with a danceable groove. The band makes their Homegrown Music debut with original music. |
Aug. 30 George Wesley. One of the region’s most popular and beloved performers, George Wesley passed away in July at 62, succumbing to cancer. Wesley and Homegrown Music producer George Graham had a 40-year friendship and with Mr. Wesley appearing on the Homegrown Music series many times over the years. Best known for his reggae music, George Wesley was the son of a country musician. As a distinctive tribute to Mr. Wesley, George Graham presents a solo acoustic session from twenty years ago in which Mr. Wesley shows a little of that country influence with some heartfelt original songs. |
