Feb. 10 A Live Homegrown Music Concert with THE BADLEES and KING RADIO. WVIA's unique series of monthly live radio concert-broadcasts continues with two outstanding "rootsy" rock groups.

The Badlees

The Badlees are probably the region's best-known band. Together for nearly a quarter century they have enjoyed national recognition and remained very independent. Late last year, they released Epiphones and Empty Rooms, with their augmented personnel. The Badlees have been appearing on Homegrown Music since their start, and we are pleased to welcome them back to perform their new material for what promises to be a fine and musically eclectic set.

King Radio is a new group founded by Justin King which features members of well-known regional bands such as Mere Mortals, and The Five Percent, and Leroy Justice. They recently completed a CD with legendary producer Jim Scott, who has worked with Sting, Tom Petty, the Rolling Stones and the Dixie Chicks among others. King Radio will be debuting their new material that is marked by solid songwriting and especially tasteful musicianship.

Dave's True Story

Feb. 11 Dave's True Story. From the Homegrown Music archive comes this 2005 session with a nationally acclaimed group known for their clever, witty, jazzy songs. With the compositions of Dave Cantor and the outstanding vocals of Kelly Flint, Dave's True Story released several CDs and toured internationally. This Homegrown Music session captures some of their best songs in a relaxed setting with a four-piece band.

Feb. 18 Marcus Eaton Trio. A remarkable guitarist, songwriter and vocalist, Marcus Eaton was recently recruited for David Crosby's band and is featured prominently on Crosby's new CD Croz. This 2010 Homegrown Music session spotlights Eaton's sophisticated, rhythmically intricate compositions that show his outstanding guitar work using looping devices, along with his high, clear appealing vocals.

Feb. 25 Drew Kelly. A young folksinger from Scranton, Drew Kelly shows his influence from 1960s-era Bob Dylan and other folk icons from a period that took place long before he was born. But he nevertheless "gets it right" and the result is some enjoyable acoustic music with thoughtful lyrics.
