Homegrown Music is WVIA-FM's exclusive series which each week showcases the talents of regional contemporary music artists in recordings produced in the WVIA-FM studios by series host George Graham. Homegrown Music (HGM), presents new performances most Tuesdays at 9:00 PM. During construction of the WVIA's all-new recording facility, September will present encore presentations. Homegrown Music will be pre-empted on September 2 for coverage of the Republican Convention. Sept. 9 Jonathan Beedle. A respected singer-songwriter from the Lehigh Valley, Beedle was previously heard as part of a duo with A.J. Swearingen. He performs a collection of original songs in a solo acoustic context in this encore recorded in 2006.

Alien Red at WVIA
Sept. 16 Alien Red. A popular and eclectic rock and jam band from Northeastern Pennsylvania, Alien Red is heard in a great collection of new original music in a session from the summer of 2007.

Sept. 23 Howe Gelb. Another memorable session from the Homegrown Music archive features an iconic figure on the national alternative rock scene. Howe Gelb, founder of the influential band Giant Sand, is a native of Scranton, and did his first recording for Homegrown Music in the 1970s. This encore features a performance that Howe did when he returned to his home territory for a visit in 1998. He performs multiple instruments on this session of his distinctive compositions.

Sept. 25 Homegrown Music at the Bloomsburg Fair with PLUS 3. The Homegrown Music Concert series goes on the road again to the 154th edition of the Bloomsburg Fair, with a concert by the outstanding Wilkes-Barre area rock band Plus 3. This group, known for their upbeat, tuneful original rock had been inactive for a couple of years, but they recently reunited adding a new bass player. They mark their return to performing with a great set given at the Free Stage Pavilion at the Bloomsburg Fair on Saturday, September 20. This hour-long performance is presented as a special extra edition of the program at on a special day. (The concert will also be broadcast on WVIA-TV at 7:00 PM September 24.) The Five Percent
The Five Percent at WVIA
Sept. 30 The Five Percent. With three CDs to their names, The Five Percent is one of the most popular original rock bands in Northeastern Pennsylvania. They combine tuneful original songs with first-rate musicianship. This is an encore of a 2007 session the band did of new original material, much of it not released on their CDs.
