Homegrown Music is WVIA-FM's exclusive series which each week showcases the talents of regional contemporary music artists in recordings produced in the WVIA-FM studios by series host George Graham and is broadcast Tuesdays at 9:00 PM. A special feature during August is an encore of a 2002 concert by blues guitarist and vocalist Debbie Davies and her group. Further information on Homegrown Music may be obtained via the World Wide Web at http://homegrownmusic.info and http://www.wvia.org/radio/local/homegrown-music/

Aug. 4 Alan Semerdjian. Singer-songwriter Alan Semerdjian has been on the music scene for a number of years in various capacities, including as a member of the alternative band Surreal in the 1990s. His recent music has taken a turn toward the contemplative, on his latest CD Quiet Songs for Loud Times. This is an encore of his 2014 Homegrown Music debut in which he performed a new collection of songs beyond his CD, in a solo acoustic setting.

Aug. 11 A Homegrown Music Concert Encore: Debbie Davies. Debbie Davies is an award-winning blues guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. Active on the national blues scene since the 1980s, she recorded a series of solo albums, and also worked with other blues artists like Tommy Castro. In 2002, she appeared on the Homegrown Music series with her trio for a memorable, energetic performance of great electric blues. That show is presented as this month’s installment of our summer Homegrown Music Concert encore series.
Aug. 18 The Revel Switch. A great roots rock/Americana band from the New York, The Revel Switch released their debut CD At Night We Sleep Up in the Trees earlier this year, which has been featured on WVIA’s Mixed Bag. The band makes their Homegrown Music debut with a collection of their original music, including material not on their album.

Aug. 25 Rob Larkin. Described as a “cross between Jason Mraz and Mumford and Sons,” Rob Larkin is a singer-songwriter in a roots-rock style. Larkin has worked with bands on both coasts. His L.A. based band Rob Larkin and the Wayward Ones’ CD Dogwood Roots was a featured album on WVIA’s Mixed Bag. Back in the East, Larkin makes his Homegrown Music debut with a solo performance highlighting his warm, appealing, honest songs.
