December 2007

Homegrown Music is WVIA-FM's exclusive series which each week showcases the talents of regional contemporary music artists in recordings produced in the WVIA-FM studios by series host George Graham. Homegrown Music (HGM), presents new performances most Tuesdays at 9:00 PM. Special features during December include a Homegrown Jazz 2007 year-end sampler on the 26th. The annual Homegrown Music year-end sampler will be heard on January 1, 2008. Homegrown Music will be preempted on December 25 for special holiday programming on WVIA-FM. Further information on Homegrown Music may be obtained via the World Wide Web at http://homegrownmusic.info and http://www.wvia.org/radio/homegrown.html

Dec. 4 Ned Farr. A distinctive singer-songwriter whose original music draws on folk, and jazz with an often atmospheric sound, Ned Farr spends most of his time as a visual artist and cinematographer, so his musical output is infrequent. This 1998 session from the archive is one of his most recent musical projects. But it's a memorable session with fine songs and some excellent musicians performing.

Dec. 11 Julia Joseph. A singer-songwriter whose acoustic sound is infectiously rhythmic, Julia Joseph has recently released her debut CD Hush which is already attracting national attention, and has been featured on WVIA's Mixed Bag. Her makes her first appearance on Homegrown Music with a collection of new non-album songs, joined by acoustic bassist Jeff Eyrich (Dave's True Story) and percussionist/vocalist KK Kairos.

Dec. 18 Stratospheerius. An outstanding rock and fusion band headed by electric violinist and composer Joe Deninzon, Stratospheerius has several nationally released CDs under their collective belts. They make their Homegrown Music debut with a strong collection of energetic original music, both vocal and instrumental.

Dec. 26 A Homegrown Jazz 2007 Sampler. This year was a prolific one for Homegrown Jazz performances by regional artists -- many of them with national careers. This segment presents a cross-section of the recordings and live concerts presented during the year. (Note: Air time 7:00 PM during WVIA's All That Jazz.)

Jan. 1 A Homegrown Music 2007 Sampler. It's an annual tradition: the year-end edition of the show presenting a collection of some of the outstanding performances presented during the year, in a remarkably wide variety of styles, taken from the weekly studio recordings and the year's live concerts. (Note: Start time 8:30 PM)
